CostByCounty is operated as part of the ByCounty Network, an independent collection of county-data tools built from public government datasets.
The organization behind the site
The ByCounty Network maintains the software, data processing, hosting, and publication policies behind CostByCounty. It is not affiliated with the U.S. Census Bureau, the Department of Commerce, or any other government agency.
CostByCounty uses public Census estimates to build reproducible county comparisons. The source fields and calculation rules are documented on the methodology page.
Data operations
Maintaining the Census data pipeline, preserving source provenance, and publishing the formulas used for derived metrics.
Editorial accountability
Maintaining methodology, editorial standards, disclosures, and a public process for reporting and recording substantive corrections.
Site operations
Operating CostByCounty as one part of a network of free county-data tools built from primary public sources.
Funding and independence
The network may earn revenue from clearly identified advertising and affiliate links. Those relationships do not change Census source values, formulas, rankings, or the decision to publish a correction. CostByCounty does not accept paid changes to county data or methodology.
